Functions of the Department of Social Mobilization

Initiating Social Mobilization activities that will lead to stakeholders' awareness of their responsibilities, privileges and rights. To ensure that stakeholders view UBE as the people's programme and have a better understanding of the programme features and implementation procedures. To orientate the stakeholders on their duties, obligations and responsibilities as wards, custodians, implementers and facilitators of UBE . To raise the consciousness of Nigerians to their responsibilities in the Promotion and commitment to UBE . To encourage the stakeholders to identify with, defend, activate and freely participate in discussions and decisions on UBE matters affecting them.

Also to mobilize for favorable opinions for UBE programmes, policies and activities. To promote new set of attitudes and culture for the attainment of the goals and objectives of the UBE.

Encourage non-public investments in basic education through advocacy and public enlightenment activities, publications etc. To promote the need to eschew all vices in and harmful traditional practices that hinder the full utilization of basic education opportunities, including drop-outs, withdrawals e.t.c., To carry out community mobilization/participation activities to promote increased access, quality and equity in UBE programme, To Liaise with other professional departments, sister agencies and

parastatals, local and international organizations, NGOs etc, in the design production and distribution of public enlightenment materials. To conduct research, monitoring and evaluation of advocacy and mobilization strategies.
