    Functions of the Department of Administration and Supplies

    The Department of Administration and Supplies provides assistance to the Chief Executive in the day-to-day administration of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) particularly in ensuring that matters affecting the organization and staff are handled in accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Rules,

    Establishment Circulars and the Commission's Staff Conditions of Service.

    In addition, the Department renders other services including recruitment, staff development and welfare and advising Management towards achieving set targets in the implementation of UBE programme. Also to process applications and handle all issues relating to the recruitment, placement and promotion of staff. To organise induction/orientation courses for new members of staff.

    Coordinating meetings of the Governing Board, Management and all Committees. To conduct in concert with the States and Local Governments at regular intervals, national personnel audit of teaching and non­ teaching staff in all basic education institutions in Nigeria. To handle all insurance matters and ensuring that claims are paid when necessary, To liaise with other departments in compiling vacancies.

    To interpret and implement rules and regulations governing the conduct/ discipline of staff, To prepare the Commission's nominal roll and Departmental/Unit staff list and reviewing same on a regular basis, To issue annual increments and processing salary variation advice, To interpret and implement the Commission's policies as they affect staff welfare, To issue annual and casual leave advice to deserving staff and processing their resumption of duty certificates.

    Coordinating and securing of the Commission's assets, To ensure clean and tidy office premises at all times through effective supervision, To ensure a coordinated staff training and development programme. To provide utility services within the Commission and handling the maintenance of office equipment, furniture, vehicles and plants. To handle all pension matters relating to staff of the Commission and ensuring adequate stock and replenishment of items for use by the Commission.
