The project has two components, federal and states. The Federal component focuses on the following:
HIV/AIDS education;
Institutional strengthening of NIEPA to train educational operators in programme implementation;
Collection, analysis and publishing of education data and development of EMIS;
UBEC related sector analysis;
Management and monitoring of the 16 states, i.e. Bayelsa, Borno, Ebonyi, Lagos, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, Benue, Imo, Katsina, Niger, Kaduna, Enugu, Ekiti and Jigawa.
Capacity strengthening of federal agencies;
Support for EFA in the areas of monitoring, secretariat etc;
Strengthening of the Inspectorate through the provision of vehicles, other facilities and training of staff.
The federal component attracts a credit of 20 million dollars.
Policy & Mandate
The Universal Basic Education policy includes the following rights conferred on the child concerning primary schooling in Nigeria: Inculcate permanent literacy / numeracy and ability to communicate effectively; Lay sound basis for science and reflective thinking;. Give citizenship education as a basis for effective participation and contribution to the life of the society; Mould the character and develop sound attitude and morale in the child; Give the child opportunities for developing manipulative skills that will enable him to function effectively in the society within the limits of his capacity; Develop in the child ability to adapt to his changing environment; Provide the child with basic tools for further educational advancement including preparations for trades and crafts of the locality.
